Getting Started
Registration for the Scholastic Anglers Challenge begins on September 1 of each academic year. All schools are in session by this time and have had a chance to form their clubs.This wonderful program is for student-anglers in grades 6-12. You will be amazed at how this program motivates student-anglers to showcase their sport fishing skills and strategies, incorporate sport fishing concepts into their classroom experiences, and how it helps engage student-anglers in activities that help them learn teamwork, cooperation, and Character Education.
2009-2010 Scholastic Anglers Challenge
The Scholastic Anglers Challenge is our easy-to-implement interscholastic sport fishing education and competition program. This program can be implemented immediately in the classroom, before, during, and/or after school. It is also a great outreach for parent nights! The program provides student-anglers the opportunity to participate in organized sport fishing competition and creates a brand new interscholastic sporting activity. Student-anglers can fish anywhere, anytime earning points from a wide variety of methods. Point values are based on a variety of fish species, classroom projects/assignments, workshop/event/activity attendance, and other methods.
Scoring is based on a point system. Points can begin to accumulate on September 1. Student-anglers are encouraged to earn as many points as possible through fish entries, classroom assignments/projects, and attending Scholastic Anglers events, activities, workshops, and tournaments. Again, student-anglers may fish anywhere, anytime throughout the spring semester entering their catches through the teacher-sponsor at their school. There is a wide variety of school accomplishments to earn points as well. These entries are entered through the same teacher-sponsor. It is imperative that deadlines are adhered to for having entries turned in on time. Entries that are turned in past the deadline WILL NOT COUNT!
Scholastic Anglers Championships
The 2009-2010 Scholastic Anglers Championships will be held in May of each year at Cane Creek Park, Union County NC. The top school will earn the Scholastic Anglers School of the Year title. The Scholastic Angler of the Year will be awarded to the top student-angler. The Scholastic Anglers Elite Eight will be awarded to the next eight (8) top scoring student-anglers.
To close out the academic year, all schools and student-anglers will have the opportunity to participate and compete in the Scholastic Anglers Championships! Remember, you join at any point throughout the spring semester. It is never too late to Put Your School's Pride On The Line!
Scholastic Anglers Workshops
Scholastic Anglers has the common interest of bringing the sport of fishing to an interscholastic venue within the educational community. The membership of schools, teacher-anglers, student-anglers, and parents fish anywhere, anytime. The regular monthly meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month beginning in September at Boater's Marine, 1829 Williams Road, Monroe, NC, 28110 (704-282-0967), from 7:00pm until 8:00pm. Visitors are always welcome. These monthly meetings will provide an opportunity for fellowship and comaraderie with the many peers that enjoy speaking about interscholastic sport fishing. Student-anglers are eager to share their experiences, places, and tactics. Parents as well as teacher sponsors are encouraged to attend. These workshops will also offer a "hands-on" open forum instructing attendees where, when, and how to fish our waters and apply this great sport to the classroom.
