To educate and prepare student-anglers for a lifetime of self-respect and healthy living through organized interscholastic sport fishing education and competition.
During the 2002-2003 academic year, Parkwood Fishing was founded at Parkwood Middle School and is now in its 11th year of operation. From such a humble beginning, interscholastic sport fishing experienced a surge in student-angler participation, growing support from the fishing industry and business partners, and increased inquiries from additional schools around the Parkwood area and beyond. With this in mind, a new program was launched during the 2007-2008 academic year...Scholastic Anglers. Based on the success of Parkwood Fishing, Scholastic Anglers was formed serving as a resource to promote interscholastic sport fishing to all interested schools, teachers, student-anglers, and parents.
Scholastic Anglers has come to the realization that interscholastic sport fishing has a unique niche in the overall education program at school. Most importantly, it is the positive effect this new and exciting school sport has on the student-anglers that participate. Participating student-anglers develop an identity and recognition among the entire student body. They are no longer just a face in the crowd. They now have a brand new school sport and gain a sense of belonging and fitting in at school.
During the summer of 2008, Scholastic Anglers earned complete Federal IRS 501 ( c ) ( 3 ) status as a nonprofit educational organization. Developed by teacher-anglers for student-anglers Scholastic Anglers is here to share ideas and information to ensure you and your school's interscholastic sport fishing success.
