
2014-2015 Scholastic Anglers Program Curriculum
Scholastic Anglers is the official resource for interscholastic sport fishing education and competition. Interscholastic sport fishing can have a unique niche in the overall educational program at any school. Scholastic Anglers serves to share ideas to ensure the growth and development of interscholastic sport fishing. There are no limitations on how sport fishing can be implemented into the educational community. The Scholastic Anglers Program encompasses all aspects and can be implemented into every subject area.
Lessons: casting/flipping/pitching, knot tying, rigging, fish handling, fish ID, conservation, lure making, lure presentation, lure modification, rod and reel maintenance and repair, habitat, seasonal fish patterns, "how to, where to," ethics, water/sun safety
Instant Activities: knot tying, lure making, casting competitions, rigging, photography, tackle organization, techniques, rod and reel repair and maintenance, line spooling
Subject Integration: mathematics, the sciences, social studies, language arts, geography, technology, health, physical education, reading, writing, related arts, Character Education
Best Practices: fishing tournaments, fundraisers, community service, parades, family nights, bulletin boards, announcements, public relations and appearances, journalism, maintenance, guest speakers, boating safety
